About Keilhill Children Services
Over the years, Keilhill Children Services, formally based in England has developed a positive reputation for providing high quality care to children from all over Scotland and England who, for a number of reasons, have been unable to live in their own home.
The Managing Director, Director and House Manager have a combination of 85+ years direct child care experience. 70 years are solely working with this company, thus developing a care pattern that has consistency and continual review of how it is working.
Very early on in our development we asked ourselves how applicable are the theories of attachment, facilitating environment and emotional holding, to the good management of challenging behaviour? Does it help the care worker manage?"
We resoundingly agreed that the aforementioned theories are very relevant to the way we wanted to practice.
We recognize that the absence of resilience factors in our children (i.e. parent or peer group support, capacity to self reflect, low self esteem etc), that enable other children to survive, cause our children to be alarmingly vulnerable. We need to be sensitive, both visually and auditory - in other words we have to 'emotionally hold' the children in our care until they are resilient enough to hold their own emotions - if we do not they will disintegrate.
Throughout the years we have set ourselves the task working with a specific cohort of children who are failing in society due to attachement disorders and associated behavioural problems. Nearly all the children we have worked with have been attachment disordered . Before any changes can be effective attachments need to be facilitated.
We firmly believe that with an effective treatment plan in place these children can be helped to recover sufficiently to survive societies demands.
